Forces Media Academy

Free Full-Time Creative Media Production Course for Service Leavers and Veterans

The Forces Media Academy offers a free, full-time one year Higher National Certificate (HNC) Creative Media Production Course (equivalent of a first year degree course) along with the training and experience to help you forge a successful career in the media industry. It is the only course of its kind in the UK and is designed to give ex-serving personnel the opportunity to find rewarding careers in creative industries in which they have historically been under represented. The Royal British Legion will also provide you with a bursary of up to £18,000 to help cover your living expenses.

The course is delivered at Services Sound & Vision Corporation’s (SSVC) headquarters in Buckinghamshire, harnessing the power of British Forces Broadcasting Service (BFBS) and Forces TV. It offers you the opportunity to work in a live media environment, with award winning media teams who understand the military alongside the comprehensive programme of lectures.

Work experience and practical skills are key features of the course, which includes modules on Camera and Lighting Techniques, Video Editing and Production of Multi-Platform Audio Programmes. In the last academic year, all students were offered two work experience placements in media organisations such as Sky Sports, Scottish Television and ITV.

Since completing the course, these students have gone on to find rewarding careers in camera operation, video production and digital marketing.

No media experience is necessary. To find out more information about entry requirements and a detailed overview of the course visit the Forces Academy website.

The next course starts in September 2019 and ends July 2020. Personnel with an aptitude for, and keen interest in the media can apply online now. The closing date for applications is Thursday 31 January 2019.
